The Great Tour of Khmer Bronze Statue
During the declined period of Khmer empire in fifteen century, Thais attacked the Khmer kingdom and brought this bronze statue to their territory.
In 1564,
King Bayintnaung of Hantharwady won Ayutthaya of todayThailand and brought this statue along
with other properties as a war trophy to
his capital city, Bago.
Then,Rakhine
Army attacked Hantharwaddy kingdom and destroyed and Burned down former
Bayintnaung’s capital, Bago in 1600. They also brought this statue to their
capital, Myauk U.
In 1785,
Prince Thadow Minsaw, son of then Kongbaung King Bodawphaya sacked Myauk U and
brought this bronze statue to their capital, Amarapura.
So it has
been about 235 years since the great journey of this Khmer bronze statue ended here.
Now you can see this statue in the compound of Mahamuni pagoda, Mandalay.
