The Pacific
Ocean is, as you all know, the largest of all the oceans. Its surface area is 64 million square miles and larger than the total land area of the
earth, nearly half of the total ocean surface area of the earth.
The
average death of the Pacific Ocean is 4,280
meters and the deepest place, Mariana trench near the Philippine Islands is 11,000
meters deep (over 35,000 feet), and then Mount Everest is submerged if it is
placed in this trench.
On September 25, 1513, Spanish adventurer Balboa discovered the vast
expanse of water while he passes through the land of Panama. That's the first seeing
of Pacific Ocean for Europeans.
The name Pacific which means peaceful, is
given by Portuguese adventurer ,Magellan in 1521.
Along the perimeter of the Pacific Ocean, 55 countries located. Among them,
the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Mexico, Australia are included.bMore
than 25,000 islands are located in this ocean, most of them are in the southern part of the equator.
Along the edge of the Pacific Ocean is called Ring of Fire and it is a
place where major volcanic eruption and strong earthquakes constantly.75% of
the world's volcanoes are located there.
In 1883, the Krakator volcano, located in the Indonesian archipelago erupted and over
36,000 people died.It is the strongest one in the history of the world.
It released millions of tons of smoke and the earth has been covering by
them for months. That year was recorded as an summer-unbeaten one for the
globe.
On March 11, 2011,Tsunami was triggered by a magnitude 9.1 earthquake off Japan's northeast coast and more than 20,000 people were killed and caused a nuclear accident.
The total damage of the quake was more than $ 300 billion, making it the most costliest catastrophic disaster in the world.
The US Geological Survey says the main island of Honduras, Japan's main
island, moved about 8 feet east.
The distinct characteristics of the Pacific Ocean is coral reefs which are hundreds of miles long and
they give many species shelter.
The sad thing is that the Pacific Ocean has polluted 100 times more than
before in 40 years because of human actions. Scientists said that a giant
plastic pile was seen in the northeast of the ocean.
The area of this Pacific gabage patch may be twice of the United States.
